Synchrotron Radiation – Applications in Life Sciences

Speaker: Dr James Nicolson
Venue: University of Chester, Thornton Science Park, Room TSU106

Audience: Staff and students interested in research

Synchrotron Radiation (SR) is one of the many unforeseen benefits from the development of high-energy particle accelerators. It is a highly intense, focussed broad-spectrum source of light that overcomes many of the limitations of laboratory sources, particularly in the X-ray region. X-ray crystallography of macromolecules has provided new insights into fundamental biological processes, disease mechanisms and therapies.
