Ahmed completed his BSc in Materials Engineering at the University of Babylon with a 1st class honours degree, he was then awarded a scholarship which lead to him completing his MSc degree in Polymers Engineering. His studies focused on the constructed Finite element model of non-Newtonian fluid flow of molten low density Polyethylene, in a single screw extruder using a commercial FE package. He graduated with a 1st class honours degree.
After finishing his MSc at the Universtiy of Babylon, he completed a PhD scholarship in Structural Health Monitoring at the University of Sheffield, his thesis was based on making a structural health monitoring system in carbon fibre composite laminates. The system detected, located, and quantified damage in carbon fibre composite laminate panels without the need for NDT techniques.
Ahmed stayed at the University of Sheffield where he worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on an Innovate UK project entitled ‘Composite Production at High Volume’ before starting his work at the University of Chester.
